What is SB 1716?
SB 1716 provides $1,500 for Texas public school families with special needs children. The bill, which is not a voucher, extends and expands the Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) program to help families of children with special needs cover costs for important educational services. SB 1716 passed in the Senate with bipartisan support, 21-9, on May 3rd.

Why Support SB 1716?
This bill helps families hit the hardest by the pandemic. The SSES program was created during the pandemic for children who were dramatically cut off from essential therapies and interventions because of school closures. This grant initiative has been a lifeline to Texas families that saw years of progress for their children dry up over the past year.

Bottom Line on SB 1716:
The SSES program has been instrumental in helping children with special needs find the therapy and learning strategies they need to be successful. At a time when our children need every available tool to enhance their education, this bill is vital. We urge the Texas House to quickly pass this legislation and get it to Governor Abbott’s desk for his signature.

Stand with Texas special needs children and vote YES on SB 1716.
